The land upon which the Castle is located has a rich history. Ashland County, and the area surrounding the village of Loudonville, was originally populated by Native Americans from the Delaware nation of tribes, along with a remnant of the Connecticut Mohegan (Mohican). By the early 1800’s, as the State of Ohio was being established, European settlers were sold large tracts of land to help develop the new western frontier. You can read more about this rich history at the Ashland chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.
Today, Mohican Country is synonymous with outdoor recreation and an escape into the beautiful hills of Ohio. The Mohican area features golf, fishing, boating, canoeing, and a host of other outdoor activities that are within minutes of the Castle.
